PERU WAS AWARDED AS THE BEST CULINARY DESTINATION IN THE WORLD FOR THE EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Peru was recognized as the best culinary destination in the world for the eighth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards, the Oscars of the tourism industry that also received the awards for best cultural destination in South America and Machu Picchu as the largest tourist attraction to global level.

The culinary recognition has its origin in Lima, considered the gastronomic capital of Latin America, where they are, the ten best restaurants in the world according to the most recent ranking of the British magazine Restaurant.

In Lima there are other outstanding restaurants such as Astrid and Gastón, by Gastón Acurio, who is considered the forerunner of world fame that now boasts Peruvian cuisine in the world.

All of them emphasize the use of “superfoods” from Peru, traditional and from sustainable sources such as seeds, tubers, dried roots, Andean fruits and cereals, among others.

During the gala of these awards held in Muscat (Oman), Chile was also recognized as the best green and adventure destination and Colombia as the best destination in South America.

The World Travel Awards are the most prestigious awards within the framework of the tourism sector worldwide by recognizing since 1993 excellence in the universe of travel and hospitality.

In 2019 the WTA have celebrated their twenty-sixth anniversary with a program that has culminated with this Thursday’s gala, one of the biggest milestones in the global tourism sector calendar.
